Aruba Beach Tennis Open 2015

As Aruba hosted one of the largest beach tennis tournaments in the world in 2015, on the Eagle Beach we can proudly say that we ‘The Island’ were well represented by our very own #1 Aksel Samardzic. A young man of only 22 years put on a show in the pre finals.  Getting it all out of the bags and on to the table, giving this match his very utmost.

But first for those of you who don’t know much about beach tennis, here is a small recap of this fantastic game. Aruba is the birthplace of this fantastic sport that came to embrace the beautiful attributes of our island. Where sun, sand and beach at the Moomba Beach Tennis Court play an important role.  It is similar to traditional tennis but with a bit of volleyball and badminton touch. It can be a two players or four players game where each side in a court try to make a point back and forth over the net without letting the ball hit the sand. This sport offers a new experience of combined pleasure, leisure and sports for both tourists and locals alike. What’s not to like, right.

For a few spectators not really understanding the game, Aksel did make it pretty clear on how this game should be played.  While playing Aksel knew to stay motivated and took the spectators with him on this journey. His fans were all pumped up, cheering him to take the best shots and pushing him beyond limits even during the toughest moments of suspense.

Aksel’s passion for Beach Tennis started at a very young age and seeing his back round in tennis, it is self-evident that Beach Tennis would be an attribute to his carrier. His love for the island, beach, sun and sand makes this sport even more perfect for Axel.

While chatting with Aksel he looked back on his journey towards the competition, where he explained that being #1 of Aruba takes more then just playing ball and practicing on the Redsail’s Beach Tennis courts at the Moomba. Being the best at what you do requires hours of training, dedication and participation with many competitions abroad. Competing with series of professionals helped him get ready for this final match on Eagle Beach.

As he represented Aruba during competitions in St. Maarten & St. Barth’s, he had the opportunity to play during two finals, which exceeded his expectations and pushed him even more to be the very best at Beach Tennis.

Well, one thing we now that it will not stop here, for Aksel is just getting started. He aims to take Aruba’s name to the very best in the World and has big plans for 2016 where he will be representing us in many tournaments. More so, his perseverance and love for this sport and working at the Redsail’s Beach tennis Court at the Moomba gives him opportunities where he so willingly can play matches with fellow players and help them also to improve their skill.

As has been said, Aksel’s match, during the Aruba Open, against former #1 and #18 in the world was the best match in 3 years. So, this is reason enough for Beach Tennis fans and players to head on to the Redsail Beach tennis Court to score a game or two with this electrifying young fellow.
